about

Hi, I’m Jess!

Jess Carter Ceramics is a one woman pottery operation based out of my garage studio in the City Heights neighborhood of San Diego. I make high quality, colorful wares that are meant to elicit joy. Pottery is art that gets to take an active role in the users daily life and I think that is really special.

Originally from Illinois, I received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale in 2012. After college, I was a Resident Artist at the Morean Center for Clay in St. Petersburg, Florida for two years. From St. Pete, I headed west to work as apprentice to Forrest Middelton in Petaluma, CA. I spent two years in Northern California before planting my roots in San Diego, where I have been for the last ten years.

When I am not in the studio, I spend as much time outside as possible. I’m an avid hiker and do my best to escape to the desert or the Sierra as often as I can. I feel strongly that not much can beat a cold beer after a long hike or a leisurely bike ride in the sunshine.

If you have questions about my work or process or life, etc., please reach out. I would love to hear from you.
